All this makes me think that even Hezbollah was caught off guard with Hamas' initial attacks last year. Honestly that attack probably came at a not-so-good time for Iran and Hezbollah. It is pretty annoying when some Hamas agent bombs a cafe with both Palestinians and Jews in it and people go "yeah but what else are they supposed to do?" I think it's just because it's such a humiliating attack. They overidentify with Israel's enemies, and the "danger to civillians" stuff is just them scrambling for a justification as to why embarrassing Islamic militants shouldn't be allowed.
