There's reading the room wrong and there's complete room illiteracy like this one from Vivec and Musk. Immigration being out of control was one of the issues that made even current immigrants side with Trump.
I think this is genuinely them thinking they can stop the H1B changes coming with Project 2025 (increased wage floors and more merit based hiring) by Tweeting a bunch of bullshit. They genuinely thought they had enough influence on Trump's base to do this.

the rub with the U.S.'s current immigration is that it's nowhere near as bad as Canada's.
If it goes down that route, which is easily possible by 2030, there's no predicting what will happen (inb4 ).
