It just struck me again how unfit minecraft is as a multiplayer arena game. Nobody plays this mess for its gameplay, it's all just "it's popular so we play it" since the kids don't know better games or mommy doesn't buy them a better one.

One of the main reasons for that is that the game being single threaded unintentionally killed multiplayer survival servers, since multiplayer survival servers need everyone to be on the same server (which becomes extremely laggy once the player count reaches the low 3 digits), in contrast minigames usually have around 16 players or less on a single server. This causes hub servers such as hypixel to have the highest player counts by far if you add up the number of players on each subserver, so that's what almost everyone who plays multiplayer plays, with remaining survival servers either being very pay-to-win, or only played by a small group of groomercordfriends.
