I don't really get this. The last time I was apartment shopping, every single property had at least one negative review (usually multiple) going on and on about how the pool was always closed and the whole reason the reviewer chose the property was to use the pool and this was a terrible injustice etc etc etc.

The reviewers in these cases were always people of melanin. So clearly, some of them do care about pools. But I guess they don't actually get in them? They just want to have the option?

Personally I don't really see myself ever using a community pool at an apartment complex. Maybe in a theoretical hyperborea or otherwise super expensive community. But thinking about a typical apartment complex, I'd rather go to a YMCA.

I don't live in an apartment complex, but there's usually no shortage of black people using the pools at water parks and the like. Granted, I live in central Texas, which is both very hot and 25% black, so this is where you'd expect it to happen if anywhere, but still, it does happen.

As far as the "pool parties as an excuse to flex your wealth", though, it does make sense. The ladies are probably spending a lot of money on hair and nails so they're not going in, and the guys will be less inclined if the ladies are skipping out.
