YouTube star and Beast Games creator Jimmy "MrBeast" recently took to X to announce the release of his new YouTube video where he helps 2,000 amputees get access to prosthetics. In the same post on X, MrBeast condemns the healthcare system of the United States for not providing these facilities effectively, with a YouTuber having to step in to fill the gap.

Nah like I said: contributing to such a hyper-capitalist society in such a predatory way is worse than giving a thousand people a free leg. The damage people like this do to our society as a whole is enormous.

t. commie

People want to watch his videos, advertisers want to advertise, everyone makes money, everyone wins. What's the issue, who exactly is being exploited

I'm no commie, I'll advocate for a capitalist society but a hyper-capitalist society is driving us ever closer to "sleep in the pods, eat the bugs." AI to cut jobs. VR will eventually be used to supplicate basic living conditions (who needs to waste money on the environment if people can visit a VR park! Who needs a nice house with a lawn when you can simualte all of that with VR?)

I agree AI is basically just bad for humanity without some form of UBI (now I'm a commie :marseycry:). The VR thing is def an issue and has already happened with the internet: https://nypost.com/2024/10/18/lifestyle/why-gen-z-likes-to-stay-home-so-much-and-its-not-because-of-inflation/

Mr Beast, and youtubers in general, seem like much less of an issue for society than those two though. Basically just as bad for kids as TV or video games.

Maybe, I just see hyper-aggressive content farms like Mr. Beast as a single cog in the larger machine that is corporations doing everything they can to get us to eat bugs
