MrBeast criticizes US healthcare after helping 2,000 amputees get prosthetics for YouTube video

The reason why they're so expensive is because the regulations behind getting something covered by medicare and classified as "DME" durable medical equipment which precludes small operations from being able to offer a cheaper alternative and gives a pseudo-monopoly to a lot of shady companies that make stuff like those prosthetics.

For example, if you have an r-slured neurodivergent mute kid, technically under medicaid or most private insurance benefits they can be covered for a communication device to speak. The main devices for this are just repurposed I-pads which have been locked down to prevent them from being used as anything but communication devices, and because of r-slurred regulations, this is literally what allows them to be resold as "DME." So these companies, in exchange for making an i-pad have less functionality, are sanctioned by the feds to charge like 10 times the cost to insurance.

I could solve all the prosthetic problems though for pennies on the dollar with just a chop saw and pallet of wooden pegs
