CCP requires its tech industry to pipeline software and user data into its military intelligence.

This is like the US government requiring Apple and Google to backdoor their security protocols and user data to the DIA and NSA, and then wondering why other countries won't buy our stuff and block our apps.

Under no circumstances should any Chinese tech or software be allowed to operate in the US. We've had to ban CamScanner and DJI before too for the same reasons.

They all have been trying to rip off TikTok since it went big. They could do all the technical stuff to copy them in a matter of weeks.

I mean heck, I could have made Facebook back then if you had somebody to help me with scaling it up. Aevann and friends have made by far the best social platform in the world and he doesn't have a billion dollars behind him. My dad could have mapped out everything for you back in like fricking 1980, they just didn't have the hardware for it yet.

These are not technical problems. They're all about being in the right place at the right time. And I'm sorry Fritz, but Germany is never the right place when it comes to developing anything on the internet.

It's hard to describe to people who never used it, but there's a reason why tiktok is vastly more popular than youtube shorts and insta reels. It does a better job finding stuff you're personally interested in.

I've used it - not heavily tho.

I have to wonder if it's just a simpler algorithm. When I liked a TT it'd actually use that as feedback (cough cough YT) - showing me more from that creator and from the subject/category of that video. It didn't feel like it forced slop on me.

I found that TT would show me a video that was becoming popular, not after it had already peaked.

Reddit, Insta, FB and YT all tend to force platform popular slop into my feed, and content from media I'm actually interested in is 1-3 days old and already peaked.

The incumbent social media companies would probably struggle to compete thanks to their baggage. Rehashed algorithms from other products, minimisation of work etc.
