I don't understand the mindset of an average person who would take time out of their life to go attend an inauguration. I understand being there if you're invited or for career reasons, even if you're a young person who wants to eventually get into politics so you want to see a political event (lol, nerd).
But I absolutely don't understand the people who dress up and go like it's some kind of sporting event.

My grandpa went to both of Obama's inaugurations, but he was a DNC local party boss in Iowa that helped him win the primary and the state in the election. He even got a phone call from Obama when my cousin passed away and he couldn't come to some fundraiser due to the funeral.

Yeah, see that totally makes sense to me - it's for career reasons. And for sure with Obama there was also an aspect of his first inauguration being a historic event. That aside, I just can't fathom the mindset of the thousands of people that go to other inaugurations that essentially have no real reason to be there.
