A friend of mine has skin cancer and was about to start a clinical trial at MD Anderson after his other treatments did not work.

Trump's decision to temporarily halt funding for medical research also applies to clinical trials.
His treatment is now canceled. pic.twitter.com/7L8cxrwND5
Trumpers, explain to me why this is a good thing

He's just going to compile the list of important functions he didn't do and proclaim the cost saving as "look how much money I saved America"
He's literally hiring people to head departments that they hate so that they feel no remorse about anything they do.

The spending exec controls is a drop in the bucket.
If congress stopped doing anything and absolutely no discretionary spending occurred we would still spend 84% of federal revenue this year. You would get 5 years of slight reductions in debt before 2030 when we pass the magic number of mandatory spending crossing the 100% federal revenue mark.
The gibs that the GOP hates like Medicaid and SNAP are not really the problem there, it's gibs for the old fricks. Apparently it's totally not socialism for working people to pay for rich old fricks to play golf all day.
The current law gap is about 7.6% of personal income which doesn't sound like much but is increasing individual taxes by about 50% and would be the 2nd largest tax increase in US history. That would also need to increase through the late 2040's to get over the demographic cliff.
We haven't fixed it for the last 45 years when it would have been much easier to fix it, we are not going to fix it in the next 6 years. They won't stop giving gibs to the old and we won't increase taxes enough to pay for it.
Imma be bugging out to Costa Rica or Malawi when things go to shit in the late 30's.

i'm sure i'll get my karmic comeuppance for this comment eventually, but I struggle to think of the last time the government did something that benefited me. the only government services i can actually remember using in the past five years are the DMV, postal service, and state/national parks.
if i have to choose between lower taxes or the budgetary health of some amorphous letter soup bureaucracy that delivers zero immediately visible benefit to my everyday life. . .![:marseyshrug: :marseyshrug:](https://i.rdrama.net/e/marseyshrug.webp)
perhaps there will be disfavorable long-term fallout from these cullings, but it's hard for me to imagine it would it have been much better under the slow, crushing rot of legions of maleducated losers in make-work positions - like the ones we just saw sneeding on reddit about losing their fedjob gravy train

You know how to read and write on the internet
Don't forget the actual core of the government which is training and equipping a military and making nukes. Everyone forgets about the rocket scientists and nuclear engineers.
