I was pretty happy as an asperger kid. Then I became an asperger high school/college student and that kind of sucked. Got really depressed because it was really difficult for me to fit in with other people and make friends/connections outside of a structured environment with forced interactions (unironically the really good thing about school). People say things like autism and aspergers are invisible but that's a complete lie. It can be apparent within a 10 minute conversation, I've done about 1-2 years of speech therapy (highly recommend to all my fellow r-slurs) and I still have an odd cadence, it's much better compared to before but it still exists. Eventually, in my early 20s I just kind of stopped caring about making friends/finding a GF and just sort of focused on my career and hobbies. Unironically, I've had better luck in finding friends and a gf since I stopped caring. I think a large part of what held me back was a fear of being seen as weird or different.

Neurodivergentism is highly correlated with depression. I imagine real nothing-going-on-up-there downie r-slurs are probably less likely to be depressed, but definitely not neurodivergents.
