/r/medicine does a little nooticing :marseynoooticer: about the train question

Most of the comments are typical reddit (WHAT ABOUT INTERSEX PEOPLE HUH? HUH? HUH?) but there's one thread of sanity that surprisingly has upkongs.

One person even dares to say the thing you're not supposed to nootice out loud:

Note the number of trans healthcare professionals in the comments here. I believe they are likely overrepresented in this thread in comparison to real life.

Go through the thread and you'll see loads of comments starting with "trans ___________ here" :hehecat:

Next they will realize most MDs thought masking and the vaccine didnt really work.

Most MDs were not skeptical of the vaccine. Thinking otherwise is chud fantasy. !nonchuds

Then you worked with r-slurs. 94% current full vaccination rate among MDs.

Alternatively you are an r-slur and don't understand what skeptical means. Questioning if its going to have an impact on transmission efficacy is not being skeptical of the vaccine, its a problem with all respiratory infections; flu gets as low as 5% efficacy in some years. R-slurs don't understand vaccines are still useful, even if a vaccine has limited impact on transmission efficacy, as they reduce severity of illness and the way transmission efficacy is measured is not R0 which does fall as people are infectious for less time.

There just isn't a good way of measuring epidemiological data like this. I wish they would bring back slavery so it was easy to gather this kind of data.

Ah yes I'm the r-slur because knowing it'll have limited efficacy and definitely won't end the pandemic doesn't qualify as being skeptical, despite those being the exact claims made by the government, the media and 90% of normies.

It's precisely because I work in a field closely related to respiratory infections, with people who dealt with SARS and H1N1 before, that everyone was skeptical it would achieve what was claimed.

@fedposter's not redefining anything. I've been a vaxmaxxing enthusiast for like 15 years now.

:marseygigavaxxer#:

I originally thought hardcore that vaccines were bad and gave you autism :marseycrazy: but came to understand through research plus education they are in general as close as you can get to a miracle of modern medicine given their relative lack of side effects, and the people opposed were in general r-slurred and without exception politically/ideologically biased (which used to be mostly granola leftoids and now is mostly rightoid chuds)

Anecdotally I once had to initiate an emergency quarantine of a facility in the middle of the night for turned out to be a nasty stain of the routine influenza after having to send like 10/50 SNF patients to the hospital in one night.

Like 5 of the 10 died and all the ones who were hospitalized were unvaxxed without exception and none of the patients who were vaxxed were hospitalized.

Even if a vax isn't very effective or is just plain shitty, the benefit always outweighs the risk by a landslide otherwise it literally would be so easy to sue pharma companies out of existence with the current tort laws for medical malpractice, like full r-slur easy.

The real problem with vaccines now is that their literally too safe and are too pacified/attenuated enough so that everyone can basically get it including that one straggy kid you all knew in school with the fricking latex or peanut butter allergy who has to use his epipen and inhaler every time he breathed air in a public space.

In any event, the blame for how we got here is equally shared between nonchuds and chuds. :marseygrilling2: Frickin r-slurs

Don't give me that shit when we spent the last 5 years hearing on the news that anyone who questioned the government's response, including the mandates, efficacy of vaccines, distancing, masking, etc... was an anti-vaxxer.

If only a year ago I had posted my previous comment about vaccine efficacy on reddit I would have been banned for misinformation, so don't tell me that doesn't qualify as being skeptical of the vaccine, when the vaccine was presented as the panacea that would solve everything.

I'm not concerned with political hypocrisy I literally already said it was mostly nonchuds who were antivax until chuds found it ideologically convenient and vice versa. Vaxxing in general is miraculous at best and ineffective at worse because of overregulation and overzealous safety protocols, nothing vax even reached the surface throughout covid that would qualify as remotely risky by the same standard that every real med you take over the counter everyday like acetaminophen which grossly exceeds it in terms of risk versus benefit.

Part of the reason it's not so easy is that vaccines generally have to go through years of testing before they can be put into general use

How many years did it take for COVID vaccines to start coming out?

Yeah we kind of skipped doing the science on those ones

Vaccines don't have to go through "years of testing", but they DO have to go through the most rigorous of clinical testing with large samples and controls prior to mass adoption. This applies to every covid vax. They were already in the practice of doing preliminary comprehensive safety trials on the trivalent annual flu vaccine, every single year, months ahead of the scheduled vax. Nothing was "skipped" as the laws surrounding vaccines would have been a cash cow of medical tort regarding liability for adverse effects if they did anything less, which you would know if you ever look into how difficult the government makes it for big pharma to make vaccines.

Yeah it's not like an emergency use authorization was granted to fast track things, right?

It was totally all the same process they just used different words
