Rory Stewart isn't a journo! He's a super posh brit (like, tutored-the-princes level posh) but he's also crazy hardcore: he was probably an Mi6 agent (never admitted it), after he retired from being not-a-spy, walked across the entire continent of Asia, alone on foot.
The Taliban wouldn't let him walk across Afghanistan, so as soon as the Taliban fell, he went back and was the first tourist to visit. He walked the whole length of Afghanistan, rescuing dogs and antiquities along the way. He wrote a book about it.
The UK Foreign Office also put him personally in charge of a third of Iraq mostly because he's a posh white guy who speaks Arabic. He wrote a hilarious book about that and what a shitshow it was trying to govern surrounded by idiots: US military and Iraqi tribespeople.
But the funniest thing about Rory Stewart is that despite being insanely hardcore, doing things most people have only dreamed of, he looks like this:

Read his books! He's quite funny and clever. I've read Stewart's books and Vance's book and Stewart is by far the better writer. Even chuds would enjoy the bits where he's savaging the incompetent UK Foreign Office or the idiotic US military bureaucracy, or making fun of stupid sand people arguing. !bookworms
