South African main military base in DRC looks like an undisciplined godforsaken pigsty - drawing ire on Safrican social media like WhatsApp & Facebook - and many civilians laying claim that such horrific ill discipline is symptomatic of why SADF forces have so far faired so poorly against , despite on paper supposedly outclassing forces in terms of vehicles and equipment.

There's a systemic lack of meritocracy, as BEE and race based casting and hiring has made many black peeps in charge not grasp the notion of competency based leadership, which filters into virtually every aspect of the country's social fabric, from politics, to policing, to government services, to private business, and finally to basic military discipline.

Many black peeps genuinely do not grasp meritocracy, and having the best man for the job in charge, and that while during the previous totalitarian regime, only whites were in charge, they fail to grasp that there was in-group meritocracy, that the best AMONST whites held the helm. Because of this, and the proliferation of government mandated affirmative action, which was with good intentions during the Mandela years intended to right the wrongs of the past, and because it was feared that whites would still prevent blacks from gaining prosperity and positions of influence, government mandated BEE has caused in all sectors where affirmative action is applied, that the best black man for the leadership position is virtually never accepted

Combined with unhealthy tribal and ethnic wingcuckery, the situation is usually that even WHEN there are scores of honest, motivated and qualified black individuals fit for the various postions of leadership, they are almost fricking never accepted.

In fact due to the decades long systemic corruption, there sometimes is even NEGATIVE selection going on, meaning that the more qualified a black person is for a position, like an important general in the SADF, the less likely he is to be able to obtain his position, because (1) sly corrupt people can sense that people that tend to be disciplined and hard working, tend to be less likely to be corrupt and overlook the corruption and ineptitude of their peers/ accept bribes (2) and secondly because competent leaders, usually their white peers make them look bad, thus literally shining a light on their ineptitude and demonstrating to the public how shit the usual goings-ons of a public institution truly is by sheer force of .....just doing their jobs like they're supposed to.

Thus we have this scenario, where the best fit black man for the job, in spite of scores of better qualified candidates existing, is virtually the exception to the norm, if they are in fact just baseline competent in their jobs.
