!commenters!kino Japbeth was excellent and while not even close to Kurosawa's best it was a top tier adaptation. This could be the sleep deprivation talking but I think it was far and away his most aesthetically stylish work. I'll have to give Ran another try soon, I didn't particularly care for it the first time but it was visually striking even by Kurosawa standards.
Anyway what would you have preferred for Japbeth? I was torn between a few items. I think Japbeth is objectively the best and it flows really well verbally but it's misleadingly clunky in text form.

I think Japbeth is solid. Gook Macbeth is funny too, as are all sentences containing "gook".

Throne of Blood is a 1957 Japanese adaptation of Macbeth
Japbeth is a portmanteau with a slur and the same vowel sound
Macbethu is an over the top riff on how Japanese say words ending in a consonant
Chinese Macbeth suggests that China and Japan are the same
Gook Macbeth takes that further and uses a slur for Vietnamese for Japanese
Macbeth anime suggests that all visual media out of Japan is anime
Hope this helps

I agree with you on Ran, I liked it but nowhere near as much as some of his other films. Kagemusha is his best imo

I don't really like reading Shakespeare. Olde/Mid English is tiresome and not worth the effort.
