Gender is a construct seperate from biology but still heavily influenced by it.
What they are asking of you is to change your perception of their gender so they can be less dysphoric about their s*x. This dysphoria is as much of a biological reality as chromosomes are. What is not biological is the question whether you should go along with it or not. There is no good reason not to.

The gender/s*x distinction is his invention. Either way, if you're going to lead with this premise, realize that it isn't universal. There was no such distinction previously and other cultures and languages still have no such distinction. It's a fairly new, nonscientific concept unique to the west.
