thirty-nine women and one young girl are locked in an underground bunker. The women have fragments of memories from a world before

It's about Islamic martyrdom from the 40 virgin's perspective but the reddit soys are too reddit soy to see that.

I really think I'm right. I think I had a :marseybigbrain: moment and saw something all these redditors and book-tokkers missed!

I Who Have Never Known Men = virgins

There's 40 of them

They're treated like shit and don't know anything

It's all kept very vague because published in 1995, so written during Satanic Verses fatwa. This also lines up for when Islamic martyrdom 40 virgins thing would've first been widely learned about by Westerners.

It's like how they don't know Handmaiden's Tale is about Iranian revolution.

>I am 33rd in line on Libby to borrow this from my library and the more I hear about it the more I wonder if I'm capable of handling such themes right now.

>This is maybe my favorite book of all time, but I never recommend it to anyone besides seasoned readers of speculative fiction

>I loved the book. As I read it, I talked about it constantly to anyone who would listen.

Imagine needing emotional preparation for a book :marseywomanmoment2:

I'm sure the author appreciates her waiting to read it for free rather than pirating it right now.

I can think of a few book endings that got me, but that's not the same thing as needing emotional preparation.

There's definitely a few films I want to see but I don't think I'd handle well unless I was in the right state of mind, though. Or that I'd ever deal with well.

There is no mention of anything horrific in the book? Like what happens in the book that is actually so horrifying?

Book is apparently torture porn

First published in French

Belgian author who has almost certainly never suffered the horrors she is writing about.

More torture porn fantasy of women about what they think the world must be like for women if society collapses.

Waow. The demand for women's suffering is higher than the supply by 100s to 1000s of times.

She's trying not to give spoilers, but the review mostly makes it sound like it's just about 40 women having a bleak, empty life, and there's no catharsis, or big revelations, or even setting explanations to do anything to take that feeling away.

I get that being an unsettling thoughtful experience if done well, but I wouldn't trust anonymous women on the internet's opinions about it, I've seen what else they fawn over.

live with 39 women.

Somehow not a single one could come up with a way to entertain one another.

Nobody around to entertain a foid.

This is the greatest dystopia known to mankind.
