Is this anti-missile or something? Can't imagine a beam weapon being useful for anything outside immediate vicinity

I presume it's anti drone prototypes as Ukrainian war demonstrates that Russia and Iran cheaper drones bombs would time and again overwhelm expensive yank counter measures and interceptor missiles,
Which is why Russia kept aiming at civilians all this time to exhaust Ukrainians anti-aircraft missile systems and ordinance
Drones Vs drones warfare also reignited the combat theory in whether lasers, which would be useless against fast super sonic ICBM missiles, could still be a feasible counter measure against slower Iranian suicide drones, which have fragile enough chips and computer components which even a moderately meagre hot laser could feasibly disable

Russia's Navy has seen massive trouble from Ukraine's naval drones. Lasers would be massively helpful in repelling these attacks.
This and EW (which Russia is really strong at) would be the most useful defensive cowtools due too fiber optics not being the most fit for saltwater operations.
long live the ccp

Yeah they're meant to be anti-UAS, anti-supersonic missiles, and last fall they started testing its anti-ship missile response.

Oh I haven't looked at any of the links besides the first one. I'm also like 99% sure that this is the case so the question wasn't genuine but rather to flex my intellect
