Hopefully I never have to bring up politics publicly ever again but this desperately needed to be said on behalf of the Terrifier franchise 🙏 pic.twitter.com/b7soIj9P33

Terrifier is a horror slasher film series known for its extreme gore
Take time to read the very reasonable, if not meek take from the director of the slasher in regard to their horror slasher franchise. Why he tweeted this I have no idea
more fun in the quotes
The horror fanbase apparently is like the punk and DnD now

How???? Explain how exactly???
Like if we consider the origins or horror to be gothic literary fiction - nothing there is anymore gay than any other fiction from the period. The pulp fiction of the 19th and 20th century tended towards being lurid, but to imply lurid=gay would be offensive, right?
The silent and pre-code horror films most well known have no significant predilection for cute twinkry. Then you get into the 30s, 40s, 50s - where are these numerous so-called queer horror films?
By the time you've gotten to the 70s and home video era, all genre and b-movies had been so thoroughly sexualised that you'd be r-slurred to imply horror is especially sexuality liberated re the gays compared to anything else.
Moving forward to last few decades, there's a handful of horror movies with gay themes and then of course you have the ubiquitious 2020s film with "queer themes" (but zero actual sexuality at all because zoomers find s*x scenes icky).
I am unironically seething at a tweet by some regard who just said a random collection of words about horror films = queer, I hate everyone with a Letterboxd account for doing this

Historically speaking, any schlock cinema genre has a lower barrier to entry, which means you can find gay directors or themes earlier in the genre's history. Think of Ed Wood making one of the first films.
That said, when it comes to horror I think it's more just that the current fanbase has a lot of the cringe punk larpers in it, and they always need to justify how their chosen slop is deep and meaningful and political.
On a more academic note, the most important thing to understand about queer theory is that when you go deep enough, "queer" actually just wraps around to mean "weird" again. I am not joking or exaggerating. Being gay is weird, just like torture porn and musicals are weird. Therefore it's all connected because it all undermines the pgdajgdg gfegbj thffj juoeujhj fihf

Right. I figured this was partially what was going on here.
Sometimes this makes a tiny bit of sense - like John Waters 70s and 80s output essentially has no literally queer characters, but aesthetically and contextually (ie a morbidly obese drag queen is supposed to be seen as a typical 1950s "women's picture" protagonist) - but I still think this comes back to rb assertion that ickiness and grotesqueness is in and of itself gay

It's a $35,000 movie that spent $30,000 on a mannequin for the clown to saw in half from butt to brain.
The clown has no dialogue and no motives.
This is a metaphor for trans rights.

Lefties watch horror movies and identify with the monster. Shit like this is why I hate the "horror community" plus I appreciate more aesthetic stuff over the kinda cheesy camp trash mongering. My kinda trash was like the mothman prophecies I watched recently where its just some dude wandering around schizo with cool cinematography.

Queer in modern parlance means being as repulsive and gross and ugly as possible, and the fouler and grosser you are the more queer and therefore valid you are, hence all the tumblr tots all being obsessed with that clip of the 80s dragon queen saying eat feces and frick corpses or whatever
Horror is the genre closest to the ideal of just putting ugly and foul stuff on screen for the pure sake of it being ugly and foul, so they all latch on to it
