I got a few pings after people shared places I posted my most recent article, and that made me remember I've been neglecting to share them here lately.

The gist is that it was a dangerous heavily used path with an accident waiting to happen, ATC was understaffed, and it was a pilot in training

The fricking airspace was fricking totally gayed up after 9/11.

The fricking routes are not fricking managed by the fricking FAA like in normal places. It's an unholy alliance of DHS, DOD, FEMA (yes, really) & FAA via NCRCC. FAA still publish them but operational priorities are not fricking decided by them.

The fricking pre-9/11 approaches were fricking much more sensible but they don't want planes flying over the fricking capitol anymore.

Hopefully this causes DCA to be closed. It's easily shortlist for worst airports.

apparently they had a near miss the day prior

I'd bet they had upped the Continuity of Operations/Doomsday missions recently and the new optempo bit them in the butt
