I got a few pings after people shared places I posted my most recent article, and that made me remember I've been neglecting to share them here lately.

It's r-slurred socialism/communism that the government operates ATC services in the US. Even most Europoors use private ATC, it generates revenue and doesn't need to be publicly run.

It's like the airports being government owned. US communism at it's finest.

I think it's really weird that it's been privatized in other countries. They manage military aircraft and require a security clearance & are privy to the details of VIP movements. Training needs to be subsidized and held to exact standards, and they have to be provided a pension because they're forced to retire early. Whatever company it is has to be provided a complete monopoly, protection from bankruptcy and immunity to lawsuits because the air traffic control system going down would cause complete havoc and wreck the economy and also interfere with military activity. They also need to be guaranteed funding in case of another coof.

Just doesn't make sense to split it off into its own company when the entire country relies on it and it needs to be protected by the same sort of systems that protect the government.
