They are looking for cuts to pass trumps tax plan. Which will greatly enrich the rich and cripple the poor, weaken or eliminate the middle class.

We see value in the DOE as a vehicle to assist in equalizing access to education for all. Without this funding, kids in poor areas will not have access to the resources they need to be successful in school. In the most impoverished places, property tax is not adequate - many are renting, in section 8, or perhaps homeless and the property tax collected does not scale with the student population in those environments. Do you believe that all kids, regardless of the socioeconomic class they are born into, deserve a shot at education? We do. But the states alone are not able to provide that, particularly red states who are the biggest beneficiaries of this funding.

I think clearing out corruption and grifting in the federal government is a great idea, but I don't think you can have a guy who is a huge recipient of federal money with a huge financial stake in China be the one to do it without it seeming ultra corrupt, arbitrary, and possibly against our national interest.

Normally I'd say you're right but at least in the terms of SpaceX elon has saved the country an astronomical amount of money with cheaper flights to space and even kicked Boeing's butt with half as much money to deliver astronauts to the ISS
Tesla didn't beg for the climate credit law, they just took advantage of a system that was created regardless. I do agree though it's a stupid system to be able to buy and sell climate credits, and that's something most Elon would probably gloss over because it's a decent percentage of keeping Tesla in the positive
but back to SpaceX, if Starship is successful SpaceX will save this country billions of dollars in space exploration

DOGE hasn't done anything yet though? all they've done is gone into agencies to collect data and helped send out offered voluntary resignation emails. USAID was targeted by a Trump EO where they want the state dept to handle that stuff
