I should have mentioned that his daughter is in the middle of her A levels studying Latin, French, English Literature and Philosophy. There are US schools who offer A levels. Many more offer IB. It's only public schools where you won't find that.
I'm more confused why he isn't beating his daughter for wanting to be poor. My school offered all of that (philosophy would be at the local college for college credit) and it was a public school surrounded by corn fields. Euros really are so far up their own butt they can't see out.
