Even if they were ultimately in the right (heh) regarding ethics in video game culture and such…I feel like GooberGaters ultimately overestimate their influence on the Chud/rightoid renaissance of the 2010-20's…

Yes, a lot of the anti-woke/DEI stuff can be attributed back to them…but ultimately, you're not going to tell to an average (and presumably non-terminally-online) Drumpf voter that stopping SJWs from sleeping with video game journ*lists and weaseling in man-hating anti-sexy politics into media was what truly saved America/the West/etc…

Idk TL;DR G*merGate is a big deal, but not as big of a deal that what the Internets think it was !grillers

There is always difficulty telling if something actually started a trend or was just the first example of a trend. It makes sense that the young and somewhat lib gaming space would have a woke fight before other things like the military.

I think it's an overplayed connection as well, but I've come around a bit to the idea that they had their 'enemy' pacified, and then actively worked to take away all the things that were pacifying them. And G*merGate kicked that off.
