I just had to draw up an important document that references that body of water and my subordinate was clearly uncomfortable with me using its new name. :mjlol:

But really, it's a silly name. Gulf of America should be used to refer to the entirety of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Rename the Pacific Ocean the American Ocean. Rename the Atlantic Ocean the American Ocean 2.

This is going to be super fun for any company who does international contracts as they mostly use English contract law where it will still be Gulf Of Mexico.

The few cases the feds need commercial insurance will also be fun if he gets hardcore about enforcing it. Need to invade bongland to liberate Lloyd's from the communists.

Unless you are using English contract law which is absurdly detailed and precise to reduce uncertainty & risk in contract execution.

Courts would certainly agree intent here but it's absolutely litigable so contract risk increases. Reinsurers are notorious for using language tricks like this to try and avoid paying out on loss, it's part of their industry strategy.

Everyone uses English contract law for international trade because it has 800 years of archaic bullshit like this baked in. It's also used domestically too, if you get commercial maritime insurance in the US executed through a US exchange it will still likely use English contract law so they can use the Marine Insurance Act. Bongs contract law invaded the entire world.
