Now renamed after a WW2 soldier instead of the Confederate general
/r/army is actually for the most part okay with it but there's still some seething
Good to see the important issues are being tackled.
I'm sure you took that attitude when it was changed the first time.
I wonder how much money this will cost the DoD and the rest of the American peopleβ¦.
What a waste of money? This administration is stupid and petty.
Good to know that they're laser-focused on government efficiency.
Union larpers also discuss it

Wonder if they'll change back the USS Chancelorsville? It seems disrepectful to the Union soldiers who gave their life in battle that they don't get honored. We have ships named other battles we lost (such as the USS Bataan and USS Pearl Harbor) without saying that they're named to celebrate our enemies. And its not like they picked a random battle out of a hat to find one the Confederates one. It was the fourth deadliest battle in the Civil War.
Likewise, start naming stuff after Longstreet again. Yeah, he was a CSA general, but in one of the most badass forgotten moments in American history a bunch of veteran tried to launch a new war and seize control of Louisiana in 1871. A mostly militia was raised to stop them, but they didn't know how to fight and needed a leader. Longstreet volunteered, put down the rebellion within a month. He was a hero to the Black Louisiana community and they put up statues to him (which ironically were taken down in 2020).

I can't tell if this is fricking ai generated or you can't read. Going with ai since "Jno" isn't a fricking name and ai doesn't know how to spell.

The other thing too is, why didn't you complain the first time it happened? That's just as meaningless as it being changed back? I really doubt it takes that much effort, who really cares?

I hated the first name change, but it's already done and paid for. They already changed its name on signage and paperwork and everything. This is spending tax dollars for no reason.

They should have changed it to fort Longstreet. Braxton Bragg lost almost every battle he was involved in. If you read The Civil War: A Narrative, it gets pretty funny after a bit.
