So it was named Bragg for a Confederate. Changed to Liberty. Now they're renaming it Bragg, but it's actually :marseyakshually: for some ww2 guy named Roland L. Bragg?

That's so r-slurred :marseyxd: Libtards destroyed I guess.

It's one of the largest military bases in the US and it's been fort Bragg for 100 years. I guarantee you no one called it anything other than Bragg since the name change unless they were forced to. Changing names of places is fricking stupid. Glad it's back to its original name.

Still hard to get used to calling Fort Rucker as Fort Novocell but at least that has a Halo-esque sounding name to it.

  • Grue : That's who people would have thought of any tbf

It's not the first time something like this has happened.

In 1852, the Oregon Territory legislature formed King County around Seattle, in what would later be Washingon state. It was named after the newly elected Vice President William R. King, who also served as Minister to France and as a senator from Alabama.

As a wealthy southern plantation owner in the 19th century, he of course owned slaves.

In 1986, King County Council got the ick from Mr King, and decided to break it off. They passed a motion to rename the county. Sort of.

It would remain known as "King County", but it would instead be named after Rev Martin Luther King Jr.

That I can support. The other peepeehead, (Pierce I think?) got a county too. And I can tell you as someone is not from Washington, who never even goes to Washington*, that we are disgusted by that.

Chicago renamed (Stephen) Douglas Park to Douglass Park in 2020. Of course, they couldn't just say it was to honor Frederick, they say it's jointly named for him and for his wife who no one gives a rat's butt about.

>Roland L. Bragg

>Bragg owned and operated a body shop and was the owner of Nobleboro Building Movers for 25 years. After retiring in 1984, he ran a portable sawmill business.

Senate passed a law, that US bases can't be named after Confederates. So they had to get around it.
