Smartest amerilard rightoid

Per the comments in this thread it seems that Tim Horton's is so unknown to burgers as a whole that this needs clarification:

Tim Horton's is a Canadian coffee joint. An absolutely massive one. It is quintessentially Canadian on a level with how McDonald's/Starbucks are like memes with what a sign of America they are. They have some US locations, most where there are tons of leafs (New York, Michigan) but it's negligibly few.

Also, what coffee company is sponsoring H1B's for baristas? :marseyxd:

You'd have to check the database. I'm pretty sure I saw barista in there.

H1B is only for 'speciality' occupations like doctors, lawyers, and IT and you have to have a bachelors degree minimum + the job typically requires one

it'd have to be some fancy butt barista job. they used to let in a few non-bachelor degree jobs like airline pilots but they cracked down on that

Sure. That's not how it always worked in practice though.

:marseyshrug: I've gone through H1B process and had a lawyer who was an expert in it that explained it all to me. I'd be pretty surprised if company offering a barista job got into the lottery and they got a hire who got through immigration

It's not at all an easy process, just mostly budget Indian IT consultancies gaming it

That gaming is what people are complaining about, when it comes to it. Both 'There's too many of them who aren't qualified' and 'There's too many whose indentured servitude undercuts local workers.' And of course there's a lot of overlap between those two as well.

But it was part of the response to Musk and Vivek that people were looking through the database and bringing up unskilled jobs that were in there.

It'd be easy to enforce, it's usually the same few big consultancies on the lists but they do gov contracts so who knows why they get a few hundred visas into the lottery year after year

But more generally h1b only brings in 60k a yr of almost entirely high skill ppl on Temporary visas that expire in max 3yrs. That's nothing compared to millions of unskilled illegals or even bigger chain migration from new immigrants who stay indefinitely

H1b is mostly rightoid hysteria, it should be praised as the role model
