US healthcare is not expensive if you have good insurance. $10 to visit PCP, $0-30 for drugs, $40 for specialist visit, $100 for ER visit and max out of pocket of $3k here. My wife had a brain tumor recurrence over the summer. Resection was performed at UM by the leading specialist in the country in her type of tumor and included a team of 5 other doctors. It was less than a week between it being detected on surveillance MRI and her surgery. It included a week stay in the ICU. Out of pocket for us was $1182. People should just try not being poor.
