for a second, but I think you're correct:
As I understand it, a catalyst works to increase or promote a reaction but said reaction would still eventually occur regardless of said catalyst's presence. With this in mind, to label "prevention" as an antonym would be a misnomer, as a catalyst is not what "allows" a reaction to occur.
Oscillations that have friction (or any non-conservative force) applied will lose energy until they eventually cease any motion are usually called damped oscillations, so tldr they should really have the lexical category next to the word for clarification purposes.

To be more precise, a catalyst acts on the kinetics of a reaction, if a reaction isn't thermodynamically possible it won't happen with any amount of catalyst poured on it.

If you aren't an autismo, a catalyst colloquially means something that causes something else to happen. Thus prevention would be the antonym. A catalyst enables a reaction to occur at a faster rate/lowers the energy needed to start one, so prevention still makes sense as an antonym anyway.

I genuinely thought it would be damp because a catalyst accelerates a reaction. So, by definition, if you want something to do the opposite, instead of preventing a reaction, you need a dampener for the reaction to slow down.
