>Elon did literally exactly the same thing when he took over Twitter, mass firings within a couple of weeks affecting whole departments. It is not possible to do that in a rational way in just a few weeks, so things inevitably broke, e.g. there was a ~12 hour period where you could not log into Twitter because they had accidentally pushed a change which disabled 2FA.

80% of staff laid off and that's the worst consequence? How many jobs are fake?

Barely anything happened to Twitter at all. It's a website. You need developers and sysadmins to run it, not middle management foids posting Tiktoks about going to the gym in the middle of their work day. It's not just tech companies with this issue, either. When companies cut staff, they nearly always go after middle management first because everyone knows none of those people do anything useful.

Among tech? Tons. Its all a ponzi scheme built on baseless stock prices. Hire workers you have no real use for while interest rates are low: Your company is growing. This is good. Stock prices rise.

Interest rates go down, slash worker numbers: You are trimming the fat. Stock prices rise.

Its all so tremendously divorced from reality.
