That's not how you trigger them, they aren't gone intellectually. You have to let the overdriven pattern recognition mechanism do its work.
All you have to do is say something that will make them draw connections that aren't there and assign meaning to meaningless events.
Something like "Why do you think that woman you met today was wearing that shirt?" or "That guy you met earlier was coughing a lot."
