Americans of any faith just use their religion as a reinforcement tool for their political opinions; basically, they make God say what they want to hear. With any religion other than Roman Catholicism you can pretty much just shop churches or just make up your own BS, so there isn't any schisming, but as you can see here there are extra steps to making the word of God say what you want it to say.
