What the :marseytrain2:s are seeing is intense wholesale rejection when you try to force a cultural change too quickly. If they'd slowed down and gotten people used to the idea over the next 20 years they could've ended up with far more acceptance and protections.

Trans people struggle from the fact that the technology simply isn't there yet. The average trans woman does not look like a woman; the average trans man does not look like a man. If the reputation of trans women was "hot chicks who listen to metal and will play video games with you," trans acceptance would be 90%. Funnily enough, for a solid decade lesbians had that reputation, and some half of MtFs are just men chasing the dream of dating a hot g*mer metalhead lesbian.
