====(from news24 article)

The City of Johannesburg has since reinforced strict regulations governing underground water use, stressing that boreholes cannot be drilled without approval.

This as illegal borehole drilling in Johannesburg has come under the spotlight after a recent incident at Park Station forced the suspension of Gautrain services between Park and Rosebank stations.

Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku condemned the activities, which resulted in soil and water seeping into the Gautrain tunnel, disrupting operations and raising serious safety concerns.

Tshwaku warned: "All those found drilling without approval will be arrested, their equipment confiscated and they will face the full might of the law."

The MMC emphasised that underground drilling was not just a matter of convenience for private property owners but a process that required strict oversight to prevent damage to municipal infrastructure. He explained that Johannesburg's underground network consisted of essential structures, including water pipes, electricity cables and transport tunnels, which could be severely compromised by unregulated drilling.

To prevent such incidents, Tshwaku said that drilling, whether on private or public land, must follow a strict approval process.

The Gautrain, or Golden train of Gauteng Province was a dramatic :marseychefkiss: time in Safrica, when our glorious communist leaders envisioned joining the 1st world by obtaining a 1st class public train transportation system, as the congested roadways of Johannesburg & Pretoria became increasingly inadequate for sustaining the transportation needs of of People in the Gauteng province. More and more people were obtaining private cars than ever before, and even 5-lane superhighways were proving to be insufficient.

It was the usual 3rd world shitshow, of overcosting for mediocre services.
