They're dismantling the government. We'll see what happens but I expect nothing good.

The destruction of the modern civil-service ethos will take time. It dates from the late 19th century, when Theodore Roosevelt and other civil-service reformers launched a crusade to eliminate the spoils system that dominated government service. At that time, whoever won the presidency always got to fire everyone and appoint his own people, even for menial jobs. Much of the world still relies on such patronage systems, and they are both corrupt and corrupting. Politicians hand out job appointments in exchange for bribes. They appoint unqualified peopleβ€”somebody's cousin, somebody's neighbor, or just a party hackβ€”to jobs that require knowledge and experience. Patronage creates bad government and bad services, because it means government employees serve a patron, not a country or its constitution. When that patron demands, say, a tax break for a businessman favored by the leader or the party, they naturally comply.

Uhhhhh most of what you just threw in there is criticism of our current political system.

Most people don't care because leftoids in our current system having been putting people in for DEI purposes (as well as "people who support it" aka their own political hacks) while screeching "it doesn't matter seeeeeee".

Now that someone who is actually talented and successful wants to fix it, suddenly these plundered institutions have a spark of divinity to them.

To summarize, you and the atlantic are indeed :soysnooseethe:

Elon Musk has no talent.

He became the richest man on the planet because on luck.

He created the highest valued US car company based on luck.

He revolutionized the space industry based purely on luck.

Everything this man ever did was based on luck, and when he tries to fix the government, his luck will run out.

Yes. I am very smart. How can you tell.

What's there to defend? Indiscriminately firing as many federal employees as possible is fricking rslurred on the face of it.

The only thing I can figure is that the angry chuds here have never worked an office job and viscerally hate anyone who doesn't dig ditches for a living like they have to.

Look in this thread, look anywhere on this site: they're so angry that anyone might be on the federal payroll getting 50k a year to double check water pollution reports for the EPA or whatever millions of boring, useful jobs that government people do. It's wild, it's like they live on some other planet full of :marseypaintretard:.

It's hardly worth talking to them because they'll just screech about :marseytrain2: or how great it is to own the libs. :marseyshrug:

This kind of mass firing and getting people to quit never gets rid of the people you actually want rid of. Anyone with better options will take a buyout and find a private sector job and people better at schmoozing but bad their jobs won't be caught in the mass layoffs.

Half right. Worked great with old twitter. Somehow they fired everyone they should have, though it's not like mass firing won't cause short term issues.

It works with prestigious mega companies because people want the pay and benefits. Literally the only benefit of public sector work outside of dead towns is stability and flexible working conditions. Mass firings and changing the conditions inherently undermine this and unless they want to pay like the private sector (lmao) rehirings will just catch the people with no other option. Any dismantling of civil service waste has to be targeted and for a lot of roles coupled with reducing regulations.
