His argument is actually pretty solid, at least with regard to subs of a certain size. Not that reddit jannies deserve anything but the rope but in terms of value created (especially with the meteoric rise of $RDDT after the IPO was like double the most optimistic estimate) vs the 0 value received, 0 ownership or actual control over subs, etc., it's very logically coherent. Like don't salary them or anything, but you'd think they'd get some meaningful onsite perks, or something, at LEAST.

What more meaningful onsite perks could you give them? They already get to pin things in their subs and ban users from their subs. I guess you could give them some site wide flair but do you even want people to know you are an jannie outside your sub?
Here it's easy enough for aevann to toss the jannies some coins and they do what they want. Reddit doesn't have any fun comparable features despite people asking for them for like twenty years now.

They don't even want people on their own sub to know who the jannies are. The jannie lists are mostly hidden now, and before that they'd use shared accounts like "ChicagoMods" for /r/chicago so they could take mod actions without users being able to tell who was doing it.
