The developer of zombie crafting survival game 7 Days to Die announces that armor / clothing has been completely reworked for the 1.0 release (11 years in early access btw).
After much anticipation, I'm happy to kick off the Version 1.0 Developer Diary (formerly known as Alpha 22). Here you'll find a compilation of confirmed features and content for Version 1.0. Fun Pimp devs may occasionally post updates here on what they're working on, answer questions, and give us sneak peeks into the future of 7 Days to Die.

Speaking for myself here, I see no issue with this style. You want something to protect the bottom of your foot, and you need some way to keep it attached. Ergo, simple toe thong sandals. They're one of the oldest forms of footwear, seen in many different cultures. They're exactly what a primitive survivalist would make if they wanted footwear.
XCountry:
You can't even see your feet in 1st person anyway…unless…feet are back for A22!
Adam the Waster:
DID SOMEONE SAY FEET? @SnowDog1942

That would be quite a feat.

Yes - it's oldest yet... going barefoot from own choice is popular too. I could make long lecture about that topic + kinda wearing such mask looks more like spiritual stuff - similiar like Children of the forest from metro exodus. So go barefoot would have sense here
Just don't craft / put on the plant fiber shoes and your good. 😅
But without crafting it you won't get set bonus. So... pretty force you to craft it

It isn't unusual for a game to allow hiding a helmet while still receiving all the benefits of wearing it. This is because many players like seeing the face of their character. Why go through the time to set up how your character's face looks if you never see it? So it's not an uncommon feature. But how many people are going to care if they can see the feet of their character? I'm guessing as close to none as to be the same thing. They aren't going to give players the option to hide footwear. So that means you either wear them and get the bonus or you don't. It'll be your choice. It isn't like you see your own feet anyhow except when using a vehicle.

Maybe someone would make a mod to hide them, though I can't imagine there's enough interest in such a thing to make it worth it for someone to bother doing so. The best you are likely to maybe get is a mod that gives you the set bonus without the entire set. I'm sure that's probably an easy enough mod to do and would be something anyone looking to create their own set bonuses and stats would want to be able to do anyhow, so it's at least possible. But I wouldn't expect vanilla to offer any option to get the set bonus without wearing the footwear or to hide the footwear. Maybe someday they'll add an option to hide the helmet but certainly not the footwear.
Isn't there already a mod to make the helmet look like a cowboy hat or something along those lines? Maybe someone will make a mod that makes the flippy floppy thingys look like hiker boots or something that looks more not flippy floppy. :)
Matt115: Ok so i have alternative which would both shoes and partialy barefoot : just change skin into fiber. I think it's sensible alternative to flip flops
Adam the Waster: We get it. you like feet. @Snowdog agrees.
TWORDY: So, the animal kingdom wasn`t enough with Necro-goat-mancery.
Here comes tactical crocks and an all-out feet fetish warfare...
Sorry lads, it`s Friday

That game is fun with friends for a few days, and then there's really nothing to do.

I got hooked on the Darkness Falls mod for this last year, but haven't gotten sucked back into it since 1.0 dropped.
