I don't actually care much about rarity and think everyone should just embrace their inner basicfur with various canine species, but it's still interesting to see which species never caught on 'sona-wise.
In the realm of canines, bush dogs and short-eared dogs are almost unheard of among the furry community. Furry websites I checked have single-digit numbers of images for each species.

I'd say that's because most of the more appealing shark species all pretty much look the same. You don't really see any hammerhead, sawtooth, or goblin sonas. Instead I see great whites, bulls, threshers (I myself am guilty of this one), lemons, etc. The most different I see is nurse sharks which are still kinda samey

Also, I didn't mean that kind of nice guy. Just from the way you describe the situation I have a feeling that you seem like a generally caring and supportive individual. I bet your the type to have random people walk up to you in the store and ask if you work there.
As for the whole advice thing. Yeah they won't take it. It's probably worth saving yourself some time and asking if they're looking for solutions or just looking to vent. That way you can save the mental effort and just give them the occasional "sorry to hear that" and "aww that's too bad"

Actually I make an effort to not be noticed in public so nobody talks to me. As soon as they do I put on a friendly face, though.

I have a pretty low tolerance for most fetish content in general (screw 'YKINMKBYKIOK', my kinks are based and most other kinks suck), but at least with pictures it's pretty obvious. I enjoy furry stories, but far too often the writing quality will take a clear, sudden dive as the author shoehorns some obvious fetish content in. I'm not even talking the really abhorrent rubbish here, just the standard realm of weird/gross that will pop into the middle of a story sometimes.
