This old guy is still trolling his fans

Last book came out in 2011 or something like that. I don't remember any of it anymore and just gave up, but he does this once a year to troll us. It's well done. It hit /r/popular.

i'll still read it in 20 or 30 years when it gets finished by someone else after he's died, but at this point i don't care enough to BUY it. i'll just pirate it.

which sucks cause i was so fricking in to those books. i started reading after the first episode aired and then had finished all the released books before the first season ended (that last actually published book came out after season 1). book 4 and 5 were...not great. the whole "i'm just gonna split the characters and only write about certain ones in each book!" thing fricking sucked. i stopped watching the show with the idea of "i wanna read the book first" and still haven't went back to watch the show. the wait has just been too long and now any hype i had is dead.

Pretty much same.

The last few books just sent the whole thing off the rails. First couple were good because the pacing was tight and things were happening.

I think theres a way to rewrite the whole series in 3 or 4 books that ends up being really fantastic. Tyrion gunning down Tywin always felt like the apex of the series. Should have basically been wrapped up after that.

eh, only if you ignore like...basically every other character. if that ended it, there would have been a lot of stuff left hanging.

Yeah because apparently there are like 18 more novels worth of content after that point. Maybe im just pick that event because it's at the end of the last book that wasnt dogshit.

With a redo, I think you can cut out the shitty Dany plotline. Would probably need to cut down the whole supernatural bullshit as well. Cut dorn out and woweee, we just saved a ton of trees and time.

idk. i like the dragons and slowly-more-magic-ridiculousness.

but this is also the only "fantasy" series i've ever read, so maybe i don't actually know what's "good".

Yeah thats totally fair.

Overall, i think game of thrones is a good set of books. Its definitely different from the standard fantasy shit.

cutting down on the wacky shit was one of the better decisions D&D did while adapting the books

He lost the plot 20 years ago. I remember how excited I was in 2003 when I read the first three books

Then feast for crows came out and was a mediocre letdown, can't tell you what happened in that book at all.

Then it took another 6 years for dance with dragons and I don't think I even finished it

i also never finished dance with dragons. i got like 100ish pages from the end and just...stopped.

those first 3 books were un-put-downable for me. the next 2 i had to force myself to keep reading.

It's sad because it could've been a fantastic story, but he wrote himself into a corner and lost his passion a long time ago. The show would've been his chance to fix it but he just shrugged and let the showrunners drive that into the ground as well, such cases
