The article already has a bunch of their excuses. They think it’s going to be used unfairly to censor right-wing speech and won’t be equally used against the left, existing laws should cover it, etc.
They equated right-wingers murdering Black people for being Black with left-wing protesters “threatening” Supreme Court justices for taking away rights.

They wrote and voted for the Patriot Act in droves in response to a terrorist act, but they vow to kill this bill because "it's a political move being pushed in response to a terrorist act". Meanwhile domestic terrorism a bigger threat to our country that Al Qaeda ever was and the majority of the threat is from white supremecists that predominantly vote Republican.
