Yes, America has festivals of the arts. What are you talking about? You've never been to local music venues, small film festivals, art districts of large cities? America doesn't have traditions? Look at holidays that are celebrated in America and not other countries. (53)

Maybe you're not understanding the difference between local culture and national culture. (-23)

You could argue this line of talking about american culture is the very reason poor whites support some of the more extreme right wing ideologies. You get told enough that you have no culture you will latch on to any that says you are worthy. Self worth and racism and nationalism are linked in some very strange ways. (79)

In what ways? Racism and nationalism are features of European culture. Racism is distinctly European while European nationalism takes its distinctive character from nationalism to relationship with racism at least since the second half of the 15th century. Those cultural elements are created by neither an absence of culture nor because someone felt blue when someone said โ€œyou have no culture.โ€œ (-47)

Ok I'm not american but this is stupid. Star Wars has plenty of value, marvel comics have as well, even the marvel movies do. And if you want something more deep Hollywood has this as well. Private Ryan, Schindlers List, Stanley Kubrick, David lynch, etc... Your argument boils down to "Holywood is not art cause it's not old" (47)

This is a much better explanation of what you were trying to say. It's probably easier to convey what you meant but just saying - Europeans invented the concept of "race" - rather than - racism is distinctly European. The second statement is only true with lots of qualification - because "racism" has come to broadly encompass many different definitions throughout history, but the first comment is unquestionably true. (6)

Iโ€™ll take your word for it but whatever it is that racism has broadly become construed as is exactly the work racism is supposed to do. From the Haitian revolution to colonial Virginia, lawmakers and slave owners wanted to create a world both on the plantation and in a courtroom in which no African knew the difference between a world in which the raw power of a white man was anything but uncontestable. Slave holders in the Spanish colonies, according to Anglo-Saxon racists, got this racial order of things terribly wrong by allowing so-called racial mixing and allowing severely brutalized slaves the opportunity to have their day in court. This notion of absolute dominance over and against the personhood of another person on the basis of so-called โ€œRaceโ€œ is what makes the invention of race a distinct invention of a distinct group of people.โ€œArenโ€™t we all just a little bit racist?โ€œ โ€œDonโ€™t we all have some prejudices to overcome?โ€œ The popular usage of the word โ€œRaceโ€œ has a specific raci... So thievery is our culture. Ah now you are starting to see how indians see it.And yeah its collective trauma alright innit? Its funny cuz i dont see myself as american, i see myself as annishnabe. (-14)

My guy, history is more nuanced than you make it out to be. Darn near every nations has atrocities. Genocides, slavery, human sacrifices, wars, and the list goes on. Whether it be nations or tribes humans have done fricked up shit regardless of origin. Canโ€™t be picking out things without the rest of the story. Otherwise I can say that your culture is that of getting genocided and put into reservations for the rest of time.Obviously thatโ€™s a fricked up statement and not representative of Native American/Indian culture because Iโ€™m cutting out a frick ton of history and just making an ignorant statement.Itโ€™s easy to go and just say you arenโ€™t part of American culture. Heck quite of few black movements tried doing that shit. Thatโ€™s just dumb as heck to me though unless you outright renounce your citizenship and leave to a foreign nation. Instead of running away ya gotta face the music and try to make things better by educating others. Not just rejecting it. American culture is funny becaus... (12)

Agreed, America has a shitty culture, but it's culture nonetheless.I do think that's what people mean when they say that though, America's culture is that of the assembly line, vapid shit that pollutes everyone else's cultures, kinda like a parasite -- of course I'm talking about the pop culture that you gave examples of, I know that the people of America is very diverse and can't be all bottled up into a single harsh sentence. The culture that the US is known for everywhere else is shit.I personally hate it when people say "x isn't culture", because that's wrong. Everything is culture, good or bad. In America's case, very bad. (1)
