We recently ran some statistics on user comment data: how much more do powerusers comment compared to the unwashed masses of dramatards? At time of analysis, we had 1.297 million comments and 10 142 user accounts registered. So the question became: how many users, starting with the most prolific commenters, write half of all the comments? The answer is 132, to be exact.
1.3% of rDrama users write 50% of all the comments.

Nowhere near it (and check the comments leaderboard to see just how far for yourself). God bless your low comment count—you still have hope to be saved before you become Terminally Online.

I wonder where i fall in that, 1.297m comments divided by 10,142 accounts means average comments per account is 128. Im just over 1200…oh…

At time of analysis, the cutoff for being part of the 1.3% was somewhere around like 2675 comments. Guess that makes you solidly part of the upper middle class of powerusers, though at least you aren't part of the 1.3%.

I regret to inform you that you are the #41 overall commenter (Snappy excluded) in my dataset, which puts you somewhere around the top 0.4%. If you'd like a second opinion on this unfortunate diagnosis, see the comments leaderboard.

Cut them off the graph to make it easier to read. The top 20% make 99% of all the comments—almost exactly, like 98.9998% by my numbers. And the graph gets too hard to read with them included. Just imagine making the image five times its current width with a flat line at the top.

I ran those numbers, though the data is too messy for me to feel comfortable posting an absolute ranking on it. Mostly because we don't count deleted posts/comments toward post/comment counts but we obviously let you keep truescore from deleted things. Which means people who delete all their shit look artificially highly ranked. But, with that disclaimer: you're somewhere around the 60th percentile and real Sal is somewhere around 50th.

Excluding people who delete all their old comments, @lnternetCustodian and @MasterLawlz are almost exactly tied for first place in Truescore / (Comments + Posts) with about 37 truescore-per-item. Third place goes to @ABC at about 26 truescore-per-item. Everything past that gets too noisy with deleted comments. Honorable mention to Carp, who despite falling somewhere around #15 in these (admittedly noisy) numbers, has by far the best TS/item ratio for anyone near his number of comments, with ~20 truescore-per-item—he's not only highly prolific, he's a consistently good poster.

What about all the accounts with 0 comments

See first chart in supplemental comment. They're included in the count, though we seem to have a lot fewer zero-comment accounts than one would expect for a Reddit or Digg-esque site. Like about 50% of accounts have never commented on rDrama, but usually you'd expect 80-90% who never comment. From there, it actually rises pretty quickly: most people who comment at least once comment a fair bit more, which is sorta visible on the third chart with the logarithmic y-axis.

Once you make your first comment, it becomes easier to keep engaging. It's getting out of lurker mode that's hard.
For any lurkers reading this ... I was there once too. I'm not a poweruser by any stretch of the imagination, I read and upvote more than I share. But it's more fun not being alone here.
Sort the front page by new, and it will be easier to break the seal since you'll be commenting on something that's fresh. It's intimidating to jump into a post that already has 20 well-known commenters bantering, but if there's only one or two, it feels like your voice might actually be heard. Once you get your first few coins as a reward, you're in.
