I don’t care about any of this, but it’s interesting to see yet another piece of nerd culture completely destroyed. How the frick do they not learn their lesson? Why do they insist on destroying themselves every single time?

I think RedLetterMedia should be the model for nerd-targeted entertainment, which is funny because it’s pretty lazy when you think about it. They avoid serious topics like politics, they don’t feel the need to pander, and most of all, they’ve just been doing the same exact shit for ten years. They’re a bunch of guys hanging out and talking as friends, that’s it, and that’s all people want sometimes.

You don’t need to drag in fresh blood or try and tackle difficult topics. Literally just stop trying and keep doing what’s working.

It's interesting to watch how Youtube's basically slowly done a 360. Back when the platform was new, most of it were random videos people uploaded that went viral. Then, people figured out a good way to turn Youtube into a sustainable income source is to get a fairly big regular viewerbase by making repetitive series that people enjoy. As Youtube became bigger and more saturated, I would argue we're almost back to the beginning. Most people don't really have the time or attention to regularly watch too many series by many different people, and are back to watching one off viral videos from their frontpage. Basically any long running channel which uploads regularly and is doing a formulaic format is seeing slow but steady decline.

From this POV, the new, shorter runtime style might be a good idea, but you're still only half committing - you're still making series for dedicated fans, but are also trying to satisfy the algo to try and get your video picked up in recommendations, and not doing either very well.

The first rule of show business is:

Left: be woke

Everyone else: be entertaining

This is usually a problem when the core members who built the group leave. Look at Funhaus another group close to Roosterteeth fell apart because core people left. Adam getting fired for being a coomer was the final nail in the coffin, channel is now dead asf if you check now.

Ray's departure was the start of the end for AH.

I liked Achievement Hunter as a kid. Their Minecraft videos were basically podcasts with gameplay; a bunch of friends shooting the shit together and cracking jokes. Then they tried to over corporatise absolutely everything and once they started losing members of the original team like Ray they fell into a long slow death spiral.

I don't understand how they managed to collapse so badly in an era when every zoomer and their dog seems obsessed with Minecraft and Internet "personalities" but I can't see them ever recovering from this.

RT was like a couple decent hangs during whenever halo 2 or 3 was out and since then I have no 8dea why people would continue watching.

This was basically peak RT after RVB. This Jim Norton impersonation was probably their most entertaining asset.

I used to be so into Rooster Teeth and all their offshoots, I even went to RTX in 2013, had a good time too. It's a shame what they've been putting out for the last few years.
