That "counter-attack" was them briefly crossing the river and putting a flag up in one of the suburbs. They've since retreated again, lol. Reportedly after "leaving" a company worth of bodies behind.
They're really fond these extremely costly PR manoeuvres. The Zmeinyy Island thing on the eve of Victory Day was probably the most insane one (2 planes, 10+ UAVs, 4 helis and probably 100+ men lost), but far from the only one.
Russians are definitely sucking at PR shit this war, horribly so. They basically just decided not to show up to it. But at least they don't seem to be afraid to do what's actually appropriate battlefield-wise, and won't lose battalions of men for a photoshoot...
