neither (most) Prots nor Catholics still believe in heck as such. I had a longish talk with my priest about in when I still was in church classes.
The concept of heck isnt even that biblical fom begin with, theres little no no evidence of hellfire and all we imagine from it. Satan is definitely 'real', but even he acts in Gods interest by testing the weak.
Theres more or less an agreement that bad people simply cease to exist, just as atheists basically think themselves.

Lmao, what? Heck is mentioned a lot in the Bible and almost every one of the many references is coupled with fire or burning. Burning furnace, lake of fire, fiery lake, eternal fire, burning sulfur, smoke of their torment. I don’t disagree most don’t believe in it anymore because it is too mean or whatever though.

Its possible youre right, theres always book Genesis for the real crazy shit. But a dude (like Zenz and Opus Dei) that cares so much about only Gensis is a weird Christian to me, cause is literally about Christ. Taking the old testament to refute the new one is, in my opinion, and interesting way of being faithful in Christ.
Not saying it isnt good or uninteresting, I sometimes read some old testament passages just cause I am neurodivergent like that. In the end the bible isnt directly from God, bless him, cause its contradictory. Nothing crazy with that, were mere humans and many Christians say the bible is what you make of it. I agree as somebody who values deeds over words.
I try to live an honest life and hope that in the end, if I will be judged, I will be judged by that.

what i've learned on it is it's less hellfire and much more eternal separation from God. Now for the akshually crowd on r atheism this sounds perfect right? Well not according to how this stuff is written and taught in churches anyways. The idea is to reunite after original sin broke everything apart. Now imagine you're one of the akshually crowd, convinced there is no possability whatsoever you're wrong finding out oops you were and now you get to spend eternity, yes literally forever separated from everything and everyone except you're fellow akshually crowd. Come to think of it that does send like eternal hellfire

It’s way more hellfire and likely not even eternal separation. Modern watered down denoms starting using that line to appease the world and heathens that think hellfire is too mean. In revelation, it says they will be “tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb” for ever and ever. Sounds like fire and God are present to me.

I was confirmed Protestant but theologically I am more behind the Catholics. My reason is this: we live in a world of abundant pain and suffering, I dont think fetishizing that will bring us either closer to God or to a good life. Enjoying life is ok and should not be painful. Now as irrelevant that may be, my godfather (which is just a trusted family friend here, not incredibly religious) once brought it up as why he is Catholic and it kept an impression on me. In the end its kind of an old split, more about how you want your life to be than what the bible says and what not. But after I stopped wanting to end myself I knew that life is good and should be celebrated. Complete absolute oversharing so pls lets end it at that.
