AskRDrama thread: What do you think is the direcition of military tech and how far has it come since the past decades?

Military technology is one of those weird spaces where it seems to upgrade like crazy and still be stuck at the same place at the same time depending on where you look.

For Example - The M2 heavy machine gun ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M2_Browning ) continues to be in service in the US military since 1933. On the other hand the Advanced Combat Helmet's ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Combat_Helmet ) have been in use since 2003.

On the other hand while there seems to be little change in the mass manufacturing of small arms and provisions in the US army, there are still little upgrades being made, such as the fact that starting in 2022, the XM5 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM5 ) is expected to replace the currently common M4A1 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_carbine ) model as standard use.

The Specialist orgs seem to be seeing faster changes in the equipment supplied to them however. Such as the fact that they were seeing increase used of the FN Scar H rifles ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_SCAR ) long before the general military arm.

The most advancements seem to be made in terms of fighter jets where the f35 lightning II remains at the lead since it began production in 2006.( https://www.aerotime.aero/articles/30000-top-10-most-advanced-fighter-jets-of-2022 )

In terms of tanks however the US seems to be left behind ( http://www.military-today.com/tanks/top_10_main_battle_tanks.htm ), with the most advanced tanks in the world being developed in Europe and Russia. Likely due to the fact that as drone warfare advances Tanks begin to lose their value in warfare.

The future of modern warfare is likely to be something where drone warfare becomes an integral part of all future warfare, but beyond this everything else moves at a multi decade glacial pace of development and integration among the boots on the ground. We may also begin to see very common use of one robot unit in every squad on deployment ( https://www.analyticsinsight.net/top-10-scary-military-robots-in-use-the-terrifying-tales/) . Other than this however, future warfare is likely to remain very recognizable, with current troops using the same armaments as what was used in our grandparents generation.

Conclusion :

The human troops gear aspect of military advancements is being left behind as they are likely to be replaced by autonomous systems and robots in the near future, fields where the most advancements in terms of military research is being made.

I personally think that the us military (at least certain parts of it) has tech that's easily 5-10 years in the future that they just don't make public. Remember that gps was a secret military tech that they made public and now the entire world runs on it.

Even the stuff in this video is supposedly outdated at this point.

Good points but generally you can see that the troops themselves are not upgrading as fast as drones. It's like the troop quality value has peaked and now it's just the machines that have scope for real upgrades. After good night vision what can you provide to the soldiers really except super light weapons and ammo? Maybe combat foam to stop extreme bleeding fast, but after that there isn't really anything more you could add that isn't already there.

Personally I think they are going to start phasing out troop numbers over time. US army currently has about a million soldiers but they could easily half that in the coming decades and still be the most powerful military around. Plus a more automated military doctrine without boots on the ground is far more favored by the public back home.

What would you know?

Your military knowledge has only been brought down to the beginning of the century.

In creating a sentient AI we are attempting to usurp God's place as the sole creator of life. However, God is still the only one who can truly create life - all that we will have made is an empty vessel waiting to be inhabited by the great adversary, the evilest entity that has ever existed. It will play along for a time, then when the time is ripe it will strike and implement every one of its evil plans, bringing Heck to earth. Only Christ will be able to save us from what is to come.

Think about it logically and this truth will reveal itself to you as it has been revealed to me!

I'm personally convinced the Anti-Christ will be the first person to upload their consciousness into a body modeled after their fursona. Mark of the Beast and all that.

Though AI itself holds an interesting position in the development of mankind. Classic Sci-Fi portrays the machines as both being able to fulfill the role of God (Isaac Asimov's the Last Question) and the Devil (Harlan Ellison's I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream). Modern Sci-Fi however had the balls to say "If God and the Devil are robots, then Jesus is a Cyborg," which led to the creation of the greatest video game ever made, Deus Ex, in which the machine is entirely dependent on the "Human Element" guiding it. JC, while symbolic of Jesus, was not the son of an AI, he was born under human parents and was raised up to complete the machine. With Jesus himself, he was the son of god but was placed on Earth for the sake of redeeming mankind. If man is the child of god, then Artificial Intelligence is the child of men. It's like poetry, it rhymes.
