I clicked on this thinking it would be a link to a cringey Reddit post, but here we are.

idio has very strong opinions on urban planning. I mentioned that Houston was doing well at getting homeless people off the streets and it diverged into a whole thing about how he hates sprawl.

I’ve never been to Houston, but ever since discovering http://swamplot.com/ (rip) I’ve been fascinated with it and need to make a trip down there.

Swamplot was a great site. You can get a lot of the same stuff direct from the source on HAIF too.

Yeah but then I have to read stuff in legacy forum format.

There are so many interesting drama happenings I’ve found on different forums but it takes days to find the relevant info since it’s always 500 pages long, plus signatures, and usually one of those crappy forum interfaces that automatically sends you to the next page when you try to scroll up or down and also hijacks your phone’s audio with a Toyota/Lexus ad.

Is there like some place where we can plot killing whatever ad agency thought it was a good idea to have auto play Toyota Lexus videos that take up half the page and follow you as you scroll, with some Casey Neistat looking bro driving a boring butt LC500 but it’s mostly his face and not even the car?

You should make /h/plot. It'd be a plot hole.

boring butt LC500

This is literally the only non-boring Lexus without an F badge

It’s still a Lexus.

Yeah but it looks nice, has a V8 that sounds decent, and the interior is pretty cool

I recently visited Houston and I loved it. Probably my favourite American city outside of NYC (mostly because I hated SF despite it being beautiful).

The only thing that Austin and San Antonio have over Houston is the Bird scooters, which are dope when you're tourist. Also the heat is slightly more bareable in Houston than the other two.

The central part of the city near the bus station has some hoodlum black homeless people but otherwise it's very friendly middle class black people who make the city fun.

The black people also have an obsession with Slingshots 3-wheel motorcycles there:

Houston is the worst. I'd say nuke it, but it's a waste of perfectly good plutonium. It already looks like fricking Hiroshima...

Last time you posted that pic Enrico pointed out how that's really old and it no longer looks like that.

Unfortunately from that angle you can't see the hotel that has a lazy river in the shape of Texas which is obviously the pinnacle of architecture.

Still looks like shit, tbh. This is just a perfect illustration of burgers turning their own cities into wasteland voluntarily.

Oh yeah, it's still soulless but nowhere near as bad as the sole before picture.

Honestly that pic is intentionally egregious. It shows downtown without any of the actual skyscrapers (which are all out of shot on the right). There are shots of downtown that are significantly less soulless.

That said he's right about the sprawl. Houston is a terribly-planned city by any metric.

Imagine hating America's most affordable major city. Urban Planningcels deserve the rope.

it isn't even like living in a city

it's like living in 40 square miles of a suburb

also, Houstonians live there

If I go I’m renting an old Cadillac on Turo with those wire wheels that stick out three feet.

I actually did one of the first ad campaigns for the Campagna T-Rex, which is like the predecessor to the Slingshot.

Bus station is bad but some of the residential areas are hotbeds of crime. When my family first immigrated here we made the mistake of living in one of those shittty places. Never again

There also aren’t many attractions in Houston. But it’s suburbs are arguably the best place in the country to raise kids. Plenty of highly ranked schools like in Cali and Northeast, but there is less crime and you aren’t forced to put ur kids in a private school to give them a chance. The Asians and whites aren’t libcucked so you don’t get r-slurred rules that breed criminals and focus on ‘equity’. At the same time, the culture is less ‘try to get ahead at all costs and frick everyone else’ that is prevalent in other places.

Housing prices are also nice. Anywhere from 300k- a few millions but you get great sized places (sometimes referred to as McMansions but they are still nice houses). Worst thing is the property taxes which knock Houston suburbs to 9/10

What was his argument for instead, building dystopian mega-blocks?

The commie alternative always seems to be housing projects. They should have preserved part of Cabrini Green to use as an educational tool/museum like they did with the Killing Fields.
