Russian police raid Moscow furry meet – fandom sees rising oppression :marseysaluteussr:

https://dogpatch.press/2022/06/20/russian-police-raid-moscow-furry

Moscow meet was an ordinary fursuit walk that has been covered on Dogpatch Press from close contact with organizers. It’s a social event in public places that follows Russian law in staying apolitical, not even displaying identity. There have been attempts to frame such gatherings. At one, a provocateur tried to jump in photos with a pup mask to get them in trouble. And an anime fan gathering was framed by someone giving them rainbow flags for photos that led to arrests. Those incidents presage this one.

Yeah, I'm sure the weirdo in an animal fetish costume was just a deep-cover agent trying to make furries look bad. :marseyhmm: :marseyhmmm:

At this walk, police picked people for searches and claimed to find antiwar items in someone’s bag, causing them to detain a lot of members.

The person blamed for bringing anti-war leaflets wasn’t known to anyone in the group. His social media was deleted and it’s unknown if it was a real name, and they’re unable to find a police report in his name.

Gottem :marseytroll:

On the one hand, how Russia treats their LGBTQ community is sometimes rather appalling.

On the other hand, how our LGBTQ community treats straight white men is sometimes rather appalling.

So every time I think "Gosh, we ought to do something about LGBTQ persecution in Russia" I also think about how the rainbow coalition in America enjoys persecuting people like me (starting Twitter lynch mobs against us, getting us fired over false accusations of "bigotry," and generally acting like evil vermin), and I wonder to myself: "Is Putin really so wrong for not wanting his country to go down that path? I mean, I'd like to think that there's a way that straight white men and LGBTQ people can be treated equally without homophobes attacking the LGBTQ community or LGBTQ bigots acting like we cis white hetero men are responsible for all the problems of society, but maybe it's impossible and whichever side has political or cultural dominance is always going to oppress the other side. So maybe redpilled Putin understands something that I don't because I'm too naively idealistic, and I'm the butthole here for not recognizing that oppressing the LGBTQ community is the only way to stop the rainbow coalition from taking control and oppressing me. Because it sure looks like that's what their agenda is, and they certainly don't seem to put any effort into silencing the members of their own communities who spread hate towards people like me... yet they always want to silence people who spread hate towards them."

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I guess I'm going to hold off on getting too upset about Russia's persecution of the LGBTQ community over there until the rainbow coalition over here stops tolerating open hate against straight white men. (I think that if it's unacceptable "hate speech" for people like me to criticize other communities, it should also be unacceptable hate speech for them to criticize us.) After all, if I don't prioritize my own well-being first, who's gonna look out for me? Besides, it's good to know that if Leftists ever take over the United States and the rainbow coalition's bigoted hatred towards straight white cis hetero men becomes enshrined into law rather than just being a cultural norm, I can always flee to Russia to find someplace where I'm not persecuted for my cis-normative heterosexuality.
