The crazy thing about the drug war is that I just got my X waiver so I can script subxaone and you know the weird thing? Nowhere in the algorithm of how to treat individuals with opioid use disorder do we throw them in jail. That was so surprising to learn.

That demonstrates a weird focus on rehabilitation. Darned doctors always fricking with my bottom line. How dare you believe that rehabilitation is better than incarceration and forced labor?

How physicians approach

Guns: sensible gun control

Drugs: medication associated treatment

Unintended pregnancy: Teach safe s*x and provide free Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (e.g. IUD) before/during sexually reproductive ages

Mental health: Free therapy for anyone who needs it and well funded institutions for mental health so we stop having Cook County's criminal justice department being the top provider for mental health care in the US

COVID: get vaccinated

I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir here, but if you vote pro-life but don’t also support any sort of social program to make sure the people you’re forcing to be parents can feed the kid they don’t want/can’t afford, you’re a waste of oxygen. That doesn’t even take into account any of the other valid reasons for abortion.

They’re not pro-life, they’re just outing themselves as anal retentive limpdicks who can’t fathom someone having a different opinion than them.

EDIT: I had taken a mini-hiatus from the internet and the first day I decide to hop back on outside of just peepeeing around in lighthearted meme and gaming subs happens to be today. Frick me right.

Medicine is getting attacked by the right in every which way at the moment. Y'all don't really get to see it too much but we're having MANY public health emergencies at the moment on top of way sicker patients because of delayed care. This is being massively exacerbated by the right essentially stripping away power from public health agencies.

This was the first thing I woke up to. I didn’t want to tell my fiancée because I knew how much it would upset her. Frick this. They’ve already made it clear what’s next on the chopping block.

I woke up to a bunch of texts with variations of "what the heck" and "I'm so scared" and it took me a couple minutes to figure out what was going on. My friends and I are all a bunch of broke college kids and we're setting up emergency plans of what to do if someone in an anti-choice state needs to get to a safer state for an abortion, who they can stay with, how to afford travel gas, etc.

This country is revealing itself as a theocracy and I can't wait to get the frick out.

Theocracy must be reddit's favorite new word, after fascism of course.

So for a long time, the trope about time travel was that the past could only be a potentially cool adventure for cis-het, white, Christian men; because almost every point in the non-modern era was so much worse for everyone who didn't fit that narrow category.

Sadly, now apparently time travel to the future gets to be worse for everyone too.

The problem with technocracy is that the experts interpret everything through what is optimal for their discipline. So what gets emphasized is the wishes of whichever expert is in the highest position of power.

If environmental experts have more influence than industrial experts, they're willing to take a significant economic hit if it means success for their narrow concerns.

Experts are best left to advising, not given actual power like we have done with the CDC, FDA, EPA, etc.

oh for real. I think technocracy has its place (but the best also need to be on top and not the most r-slurred like Von Der Leyen in EU) but it must be balanced by politicians who get the agenda from the people.

Most "technocrats" are complete buffoons, Hillary thought she deserves that job just by... yeah just by what?

I think the power should come from the unions, which decide who the best professionals are by vote or standartized testing. But again, every profession will think of itself as most important and none should ever be the most important one - theres no programming without crops but no crops without engineers.

Not a grand theory and I am in work so pls excuse me just giving a rough outline of my model.
