:marseyairquotes:Effortpost:marseyairquotes: Minor League Hockey Drama: St. John Sea Dogs win the Memorial Cup, leafs seethe

To explain why people are pissed about this first I have to explain minor league hockey.

Basically the CHL (Canadian Hockey League) is a minor hockey league consisting of three smaller leagues, the WHL, the OHL, and the QMJHL. The league hosts a tournament every year called the Memorial Cup, which is, for people who care about it, kind of a big deal. Now in order to qualify for the Memorial Cup you would have to either:

  • Win the championship in your league (Win 16 games, 13 if you're in the QMJHL)
  • **Have your city host the Memorial Cup**

Now here's the teams that qualified for the Memorial Cup and their rankings:

  • Edmonton Oil Kings (Won WHL Championship) 4th Place
  • Shawinigan Cataractes (Won QMJHL Championship) 3rd Place
  • Hamilton Bulldogs (Won OHL Championship) 2nd Place
  • St. John Sea Dogs (Hosted Memorial Cup) 1st Place

The Sea Dogs got eliminated by OcΓ©anic in the first round of the QMJHL championship, but since they're the host team this year they get in anyway.

Suffice to say, them winning the Memorial Cup has caused a lot of seethe:

Some coping on the official Hamilton Bulldogs account

Seething in a TSN annoucement of their victory (TSN is like ESPN but Canadian :marseysick:)

Some more people complaining about the Sea Dogs winning

Tiny amount of salt on a tweet of the Sea Dogs celebrating their victory
